Update on the Greek financial situation – 8th August
So far life in Vassiliki has been almost unaffected by the Greek 'crisis'. All the shops, bars and restaurants in the village are open and trading; most of the shops will still take card payments but the bars and restaurants are reluctant to take card payments.
If you did want to pay by card then do ask before being seated.
Card payments are still being taken on the Wildwind site at the three small bar/restaurants we use. You can still run a tab against your room for any food/drink taken at these and pay by credit card or prepaid Eurocard at the end of your holiday.
There are at least three ATMs in resort and despite their getting a lot of use at the moment we were still able to withdraw cash today. The limit of 60 euros per day for withdrawals placed on Greek nationals is not applicable to foreign nationals. Our friends at Samba Tours (travel agency in the village) have a new ATM outside their offices as well as having an exchange in the office (and they stay open really late). Currently they report there are no issues with their stocks of euros for exchange purposes.
However, it is good travel advice to take some extra cash along with cards (whether Euros or Sterling to exchange when you are in resort) if you are planning to use the restaurants and bars in the village and for any contingencies. In order to aid peace of mind for all our clients bringing additional cash we have now installed safes in all our rooms.
Most importantly, the sun is shining, the wind is blowing and everyone is having a great time!
